This years Scottish Riley Enthusiasts summer driving weekend will take place in the beautiful Scottish Borders from Friday 14th of July to Sunday 16th of July.
This exciting weekend will base itself around the picturesque conservation villages of Denholm and Minto. Maps of the weekends routes will be handed out on the Friday .
Friday 14th July.
Meet at Gifford, Goblin Ha pub for lunch around 12 o clock . After lunch we have a leisurely drive though to Soutra via Humbie .
Lay by stop and check .
From Soutra we drive down the A68 through the towns of Lauder , Earlston and St Boswells. 6 miles past St Boswell we turn off on the A698 sign posted Hawick .
6 miles on that route we stop at Denholm our destination. There we can park around the village green and visit the Crosskeys inn for a well earned pint .
Saturday 15th July .
10am meet on Denholm village green .
We leave Denholm on unclassified roads to Kelso along the banks of the river Teviot ,
Once in Kelso we will be invited to park in the small cobbles square directly in front of the town hall. This area is kept back for Riley cars only .
In Kelso we will take coffee and have photo opportunities.
Kelso to Melrose via Smailholm tower and Scotts view (photo opportunity)
Quick stop in Melrose near abbey for photos and vehicle check
Snack and ice cream opportunity.
Melrose to Traquair house . http://www.traquair.co.uk/
Via Galashiels , Clovenfords , Walkerburn , Innerleithen.
Once in Innerleithen we are invited to Scotlands oldest inhabited house, the historic Traquair house. Here we will be guests of Lady Catherine Maxwell Stuart a keen vintage car enthusiast. Parking will be reserved for Riley cars in front of the main house .
Here we can visit the house and grounds , purchase some famous Traquair ale for the shop. We can also take lunch at this point .
Traquair to St Mary's Loch via A709.
Rest at St Mary's Loch for a cup of tea at the Lake side cafe , great photo opportunities here.
After tea leave St Mary's Loch on A708 then turn right onto B709 then B711 for Hawick . This is a beautiful route to Hawick over the tops on very small single track roads.
Once in Hawick we head for Denholm on the A698 then we head back to the Village of Minto one mile from Denholm for the evening BBQ and nights entertainment in the grounds of the old School house in Minto . (TD98SG)
Plenty of Parking in the paddock , free camping next to your car .
Bar and live music .
Estimated time of arrival back in Minto 5.30 -6pm
Denholm and district has plenty of hotels and guesthouses , we can offer free camping at Minto next to your car , there are shower and WC facilities on site .
Two Shepherds huts are available on site , cost £55 per night and sleep two per hut .
