The SRE Central Group held the SRE National Weekend on Arran in 2005 – at Blackwaterfoot – so this year’s SRE Autumn trip could be considered a ten-year anniversary re-union with this beautiful Island.
In the tradition of these SRE weekends, the event was very informal: one can do one’s own thing, but also join in the Riley drives to the various places of interest, and of course share our morning and evening get-togethers. And we made the most of our freedom to explore, with a bit of keep-fit thrown in!
Stalwart SRE will-go-anywhere driver, Donald Mann, was at the wheel of his Lincock, at 1934 the oldest car present as, unfortunately, Mike and Pamela Sockalingam had had a few electrical issues in the 1933 Lynx, and played safe with their immaculate Series 1 MX5. This team was also enhanced with Keith and Ann Briggs in their Series 3 model. Pat and I were in the trusty Falcon and Rob and Jo Storr had popped up from Sheffield in their RMC roadster! The contingent was finally made up by our friends John and Alexis Burnett from Ratho, driving our 1939 Rover 14 Drophead Coupé.
